Oslo is a particularly attractive destination in the run-up to Christmas, as the city offers a festive atmosphere, which is underlined by a variety of activities and events. If you opt for a mini cruise to Oslo including hotel, you will have plenty of time to explore the capital on the fjord!
Nordic design and Christmas shopping
Oslo is a good place to buy Scandinavian design and handmade gifts that make great Christmas presents. The shops in the shopping streets and malls are often festively decorated and offer seasonal products.
Christmas market
Oslo has several Christmas markets that convey a traditional Scandinavian festive atmosphere. The largest and most famous is the Christmas market in Spikersuppa Park, right in the city center, where the stalls offer handmade gifts, local products and typical Norwegian Christmas specialties such as "gløgg" (Norwegian mulled wine) and "pepperkaker" (gingerbread).
Winter activities
The Norwegian capital offers many outdoor activities such as ice skating. The ice rink in Spikersuppa Park is a popular meeting place, surrounded by festive lights and Christmas decorations. Another highlight is the toboggan run "Korketrekkeren" (Corkscrew). Here's how it works: Take the tram up to the toboggan station. There you can rent a sled. Then you go downhill on the sled and if you want, start the whole thing again.
Festive lighting and decorations
The city is festively lit up, especially Karl Johans Gate, Oslo's main street, and the Aker Brygge harbor area, where buildings, streets and trees are decorated with lights. The Christmas tree in front of the City Hall is another highlight. The tradition of Oslo donating a large Christmas tree to London's Trafalgar Square stems from gratitude for British support in World War II.
Welcome aboard and to winter Oslo!
