At home in nature
Norway is the land of "friluftsliv," a deep-rooted tradition that celebrates life outdoors. The term means more than just an outdoor adventure - it is a way of life that combines respectful interaction with nature and the pursuit of simplicity in the wilderness. Camping in Norway immerses you in one of Europe's most pristine landscapes and follows a long Norwegian tradition of appreciating nature.
With its countless fjords, mighty mountain ranges and vast, untouched forests, Norway offers the ideal setting for a camping adventure. The so-called "right to roam" allows you to enjoy the landscape to the fullest - as long as you act respectfully and sustainably.

Camping etiquette
-
Use dedicated campsites and motorhome parking spaces.
This option is always the best choice. Staying at campsites and shopping in local shops contributes to a sustainable travel experience and supports local communities. You can find a selection of beautiful places on nordlandblog.de (german website) and many other websites such as VisitNorway or camping.no. -
Show consideration while wild camping.
You are allowed to stay at rest areas along roads or on non-agricultural land. Make sure to camp at least 150 meters away from buildings and that travelers only stay there for one night. Avoid camping on private property or agricultural land and do not drive off the roads. Do not park your vehicle on narrow roads in passing bays to not not to block the flow of traffic. Also avoid damaging the terrain and nature or disturbing wildlife - and remember to always leave no trace. -
Take your rubbish with you.
Do not leave rubbish behind when you are out and about. Dispose of your garbage in garbage cans and empty toilets and sewage at designated disposal stations. -
Pay attention to all signs.
Watch for and respect signs prohibiting parking or overnight stays with campers or caravans. -
Keep your distance from other vehicles.
For safety reasons, you should always keep at least four meters away from other vehicles or campsites, especially for fire safety reasons.
If each of us behaves respectfully, together we can preserve and experience Norway's impressive nature for future generations. For more information, see www.camping.no.
