Things to do

Bryggen Museum

The Bryggen Museum is an ideal starting point for exploring historic Bryggen. In this cultural and historical museum you can admire archaeological finds and attend lectures that tell a lot about daily life in the past. There is also a visitor center in Bryggestredet in the middle of Bryggen and of course it is also possible to take a guided tour.

Culinary Bergen

In Bergen, culinary tradition meets modern sophistication to form a diverse and fascinating food culture. Known for its picturesque fjords and colorful wooden houses, the city also boasts a rich dining scene that combines both local and international influences. An absolute must for foodies is the famous fish market, which has been the center of culinary life in Bergen for centuries. Here, visitors can buy fresh fish and seafood directly from local fishermen or indulge in one of the nearby restaurants that serve delicious Norwegian cuisine.

Bryggen

The Bryggen harbor district is one of the most striking places in Bergen and is on the UNESCO heritage list. The great fire of 1702 completely destroyed the area, after which today's Bryggen was rebuilt almost unchanged on the foundations of the old one. Visit the fish market or Bergenhu Fortress. In addition, there are many cafes, restaurants and shops to choose from. Many of the shops sell traditional and unique handicrafts.

The seven mountains of Bergen

The seven mountains that surround Bergen not only offer beautiful views of the city, but also numerous opportunities for an active day trip. The most popular mountains are Fløyen, which can be reached by cable car from the city center, and Mount Ulriken. At the top of Ulriken, the highest mountain, there is a zip line with great views over the city and the fjords. A popular hike connects both mountains with a panoramic walk over Vidden.

Shopping

When it comes to shopping, Bergen is the capital of Norway. A typical trading town throughout the centuries, where there are many tempting shops. In the compact city center you will find small niche shops, shops with famous Scandinavian design to big brand shops, all mixed. When the weather doesn't encourage being outside, you can find large indoor shopping centers near Bergen, such as Lagunen Storsenter.
