Tailor made ships

Color Line Fleet

In summer 2019, the world’s largest plug-in hybrid ship went into service between Sandefjord and Strømstad. With the building of this ship, all the routes that Color Line operates between Norway, Germany, Denmark and Sweden will have been equipped with new, modern, tailor made ships over the course of just a few years.

Investment and innovation

Sustainable solutions
The effective and environmentally friendly transport of people and goods is an important part of the solution to the world’s climate challenges. Color Line wishes to be at the forefront in introducing new, climate-friendly technology on board the company’s ships and in the ports the company uses. The most important environmental initiatives are onshore power in all the Norwegian ports and scrubbers (exhaust cleaning systems) on all new ships.

Modern
The investments that Color Line has made in recent years also include modern, contemporary fittings and interiors. Passengers on the cruise ships Color Magic and Color Fantasy between Oslo and Kiel are offered entertainment in a special show lounge, a water park, shops, restaurants, a casino, spa, hairdresser and exercise centre. The ships have modern conference and exhibition facilities and are also equipped for guests with special needs.

Digitalisation and new technology
Digitalisation and new technology form an important part of the investment. Color Line has established a new booking system for passengers travelling either with or without a car. In autumn 2017, the company launched an app for guests on board. The Color Line app provides passengers with information about shops, restaurants, bars, entertainment and activities on board. The app can also be used to order drinks in the Show Lounge and passengers can also follow the ship’s progress in real time on a map. At the moment the app is only used on the ships between Oslo and Kiel but it will eventually be available, with customised content, on the other ships. There are internet access and mobile phone signals on all our ships.

For Color Line, safety is a priority. The ships have modern equipment and there are regular safety exercises.
