Skiing at Gausta

With large children’s areas, slopes for all levels, off-piste terrain, and ski touring on Gaustatoppen — one of Norway’s most famous mountains — Gausta is a ski resort for everyone. Especially for families, with free lift passes and ski rental for all children under 8 years of age.

    Gausta Ski Center

The Gausta Ski Center offers 35 km of slopes, several children's areas, and snow parks with jumps and rails for twin-tip skiers and snowboarders. There are challenges for all skill levels, evening skiing, and plenty of great places to stop for refreshments — including barbecue areas, a warming hut, restaurants, freshly baked pizzas, and even a snow groomer converted into a food truck.

    Ski school for all ages

At Gausta, you’ll find a ski school with certified instructors and classes for all age groups. Few things are more rewarding than seeing children’s pride and confidence as they learn to ski downhill and use the lift on their own. Adults are welcome too — why not take the opportunity to refine your technique with an experienced instructor?

  • Take the train to the mountain top

The iconic Gaustatoppen rises 1,883 meters above sea level. Here, you can enjoy Norway’s best-selling waffle and a view across one-sixth of the country. The Gaustabanen — a unique underground funicular — takes you all the way to the top. On the way down, you’ll find both family-friendly off-piste terrain and steep chutes that experienced skiers can explore with a guide. Even without skis, it’s an unforgettable adventure!

    Cross-country skiing with a view

Gausta offers top-class cross-country skiing. Beginner trails are perfect for newcomers, while more experienced skiers can challenge themselves and enjoy panoramic views along the high mountain routes. When night falls, a three-kilometre floodlit trail stays open late every evening. And each morning, you can track the grooming machines via GPS and be among the first on freshly prepared trails.

Thanks to its high altitude, Gausta is often among the first places in Norway to receive winter snow — and it typically lasts until May. In 2019, Gausta also invested heavily in a new snowmaking system, ensuring ideal conditions and a long, wonderful ski season!
